I MISS YOU LADIES SO MUCH!!!!!!!!

k. just needed to get that off my chest.

CHINA ART!!!!!!!!!

alright. it is time to sit and BLOG. i have a lot to catch up on.

first: Contemporary Chinese Art at the MoMA in San Francisco.

I was in SF last week, and went to the SFMoMA on Monday. I've seen pretty good stuff there every time I go, but this time was especially interesting to me, since there was this large exhibition on Contemporary Chinese Art. I took it as an encouraging sign, considering I was leaving for the Asian continent..

I learnt that China has some FUNNY artists. Political, with a damn good sense of humour. It made me look forward to what I'll be seeing in HK and China.

Some artists I took note of:

Yue Minjun: His life-size contemporary terracotta warriors...they are obnoxious, ridiculous, (probably ridiculously priced), but hilariously delightful.

Gu Wenda: This man is off the hook!!!!!! www.wendagu.com
Check out the united nations projects....he creates these pieces using Elmer's glue and human hair. At the SFMoMA there was a large panel made up of a phrase repeated in many languages...all written in hair. Hows that for typography??

Lin Tianmiao: Her piece called "Initiator" was rather striking. Similar feel to Gu Wenda's hair pieces, except she uses white string in her sculptures.

Zhang Huan: www.zhanghuan.com
At the SFMoMA there were 3 of his sculptures. Check out his website, there's tons there.

One more image...a painting by Lui Xiaodong called "Fat Grandson". It perfectly captures the essence of a young mainland Chinese boy. Wendy will agree with me. ....actually i think this kid lives in my building. on the 17th floor...um...FYI.

a'iight homies. more to come from the MAINland.

Fatima this is for you

so addams is very quiet these days, pernot and gabe lock me and sam and karen and tasha into the gallery to paint the walls various shades of gray. it's a rainbow. anyway gabe is hilarious, he said two things today worth noting:

1. "grey walls are just so sexy" (AMEN -nothing truer has ever been uttered in that gallery in reference to paint/color/etc)

2. in reference to his desire to weight down the ceiling tiles so that they hit the top of the wall he built "i know im anal...it's the addiral - it makes me just so goddam anal."

I <3 astrology

MY HOROSCOPE from SUSAN MILLER HOROSCOPES:
(FYI move-in @BaseKamp scheduled for august 15th!!!!)

The second eclipse of the month - and the family of eclipses always come in pairs - will occur on August 16 in Aquarius. This will be a full moon lunar eclipse on that date, and at that time you will be ready to state your future intentions. You are now in a very potent period, where one chapter will end and a new chapter will start up in a few months or weeks.

Creatively, however, you'll be VERY strong at the August 16 eclipse, and actually that would be a fine way to use the Neptune presence at this time. In this case, if you are artistic you'd be using the best part of Neptune, the gift of imagination!

The closer your birthday falls to February 13, the more dramatically you will feel this second eclipse, August 16.

Eclipses bring events that you can't quite sweep under the rug - if you don't take care of all that comes up, no matter what it happens to be, it will be taken out of your hands and taken care of for you by the universe.

Matthew Rich

I went to Fleisher Ollman Gallery and discovered this guy:
matthew rich!

His work is awesome.
I like the paper paintings the best, look at the one called dragon.
He is a reminder that some people are making good work in this world.

sunflower fart

more possibilities with bulgur wheat...

A Modified Tabbouleh
1 cup bulgur wheat
2 cups water
1/4 cup olive oil
1 lemon (juice of)
Tons of black pepper
A goodly amount of salt
Cayenne 'til it burns
1/2 cucumber, diced
1/4 green onion, diced
1/2 cup mint, chopped

For this one, I was impatient and boiled the bulgur instead of soaking it. So I ate it hot. And it was great. Boil the bulgur in water for about 12 minutes, add the other ingredients, and toss well.

I put in enough cayenne to make my face all sweaty.

YUM.

no wait, i want every night to be like THIS:
